Coldplay frontman Chris Martin will be a mentor on American Idol in an upcoming episode themed after the band.

May 9 will see the British hitmaker appear on the show to give some guidance and advice to the finalists.

Variety was first to report the appearance which will also see Coldplay perform their new single, Higher Power.

The episode will feature two performances from the remaining Idol hopefuls, the first seeing them sing something as a Mother’s Day tribute to their loved ones.

Then they will perform a second song from Coldplay’s catalog, with help from Chris.

The Grammy-winner, 44, will be seen speaking to and working with each contestant at a Malibu studio as he helps guide the contenders through the Coldplay songbook for their performance.

The show’s judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie will then share their thoughts about the final results after the contestants perform on stage.

At present, the remaining performers headed are Chayce Beckham, Casey Bishop, Cassandra Coleman, Deshawn Goncalves, Caleb Kennedy, Grace Kinstler, Hunter Metts, and Willie Spence.

Season 18 loser Arthur Gunn is also on the show after controversially getting getting a second chance to compete on the current season.

American Idol featuring Chris Martin airs May 9 on ABC.
