“Coming Back was Not Easy”: Daniil Medvedev Opens Up About His COVID-19 Experience

World No. 3 Daniil Medvedev skipped the Monte Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open 2021 because he tested positive for COVID-19. He last played at the Miami Open 2021 where he lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarters of the tournament. Since then, he hasn’t played a professional tennis match but will return to the court at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021.

Daniil Medvedev will begin as the second-seeded player at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021. He has just won his battle against the coronavirus and will hope to make an incredible comeback on the court in Madrid.

In a recent statement, Medvedev talked about his COVID-19 experience. He revealed that he initially felt cold. Then, he felt as if his nose and throat were completely blocked. After all this, he felt a little weakness as well but it lasted for only four to five days.

“So I felt some sickness symptoms. It was like a strong cold, you know, or something like this. Had some nose and throat blocked a little bit, weakness for few days but not more than that,” said Medvedev.

This must have been a tough experience for Medvedev, and he took quite some time to return on the court again. However, he fought with all this might and managed to win the battle against the virus just like a warrior.

Medvedev also disclosed that he faced a lot of difficulties while returning to the court, especially since he had been on his bed for ten days. However, he practiced hard to accomplish his dream of playing in Madrid. He also stated that he is really excited about playing at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021.

“Coming back was not easy first four, five days especially after, you know, laying ten days in your bed at home also. I feel like I had a good one week and a half of practice. I just won doubles, so everything seems positive. Of course, looking forward to play here,” added the Russian player.

Even though Daniil Medvedev has had a great season so far, clay is not his forte. He doesn’t have a great record playing on the surface and fans expect him to improve his stats on clay this season. Will Medvedev be able to succeed at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021?
