Elden Ring possibly delayed to 2022 – six seconds of footage leaked

Elden Ring - are you already hyped?

A recent financial report implies that Elden Ring won’t release until next year, while another, very brief clip leaks online.

There have been next to no official updates about Elden Ring since its initial announcement at E3 2019. Some may have hoped that the game could still release later this year but it’s looking like it may very well not come out until 2022.

While there has been no official announcement from publisher Bandai Namco or developer FromSoftware, the most recent financial earnings report from Kadokawa Corporation (FromSoftware’s parent company) may suggest as much.

According to the report, due to disruption and uncertainty caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the company is expecting lower revenue for the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2022.

One of the things it explicitly mentions as being impacted by the pandemic is ‘delayed development of new works.’ It doesn’t mention it by name, but it’s safe to assume that among these new works is Elden Ring.

It’s entirely possible that this means Elden Ring may not even release until after March next year. But, as analyst Daniel Ahmad points out, the game may not be included in the forecast due to the uncertainty of its release time.

There has already been talk of Elden Ring being pushed back to 2022 and this could very well be another piece of evidence in its favour.

What’s more, Bandai Namco won’t be attending E3 this year, which could be taken as further proof that Elden Ring isn’t in any state to be shown off again.

In related news, another short clip of Elden Ring footage has leaked online. Given the Bandai Namco confidential watermark, it’s believed to come from the same source that leaked a trailer in March.

At the time of writing, it’s still available to watch on YouTube. It doesn’t really show a lot, however, only lasting six seconds and focusing entirely on environments. And since it’s off-camera footage and blurry, it’s difficult to appreciate the visuals.

Elden Ring is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
