Shawn Wallace, AKA The Dark Destroyer, has insisted there is no secret behind-the-scenes competition with his fellow chasers on the ITV programme.

The barrister has been a fixture on the series, fronted by Bradley Walsh, since 2009 and has given his civilian opponents a literal run for their money over the years – but while he says he wouldn’t fear to come up against any one of them in a battle of the brains, there is a ‘one team, one dream’ attitude in the green room.

This comes after chaser Jenny, otherwise known as ‘The Vixen’, made headlines when she appeared to ‘punch’ fellow chaser Paul for getting a question about Star Wars wrong in the second series of The Chase spin-off Beat The Chasers.

Paul, also known as ‘The Sinnerman’, cleared up what happened later on, saying that he didn’t even notice at the time and that it was ‘nothing’.

When asked by Ranvir Singh on Monday’s Lorraine about the backstage antics of the chasers, Shaun insisted there is no competition and they’re all in it together.

He explained: ‘You know what? Surprisingly we are not competitive.

‘Ever since we’ve all become chasers we’ve all had the attitude one for all and all for one, like the three musketeers. We do get along well.

‘People might not believe us, but we support each other whether we win or lose.’

What if you ask him who he dubs the ‘best’ chaser?

Shaun offered ‘Anne [Hegerty] is the most consistent, Jenny is on fantastic form’, while adding new chaser Darragh Ennis is ‘a wonderful welcome addition’.

He went on: ‘I suppose Mark Labbett and Paul are the stand out in terms of being consistent, being quick and being extremely clever.’

Be that as it may, Shaun doesn’t doubt his own knowledge against his co-stars – despite admitting, while they know their stuff, they’re ‘not infallible’.

‘I wouldn’t fear [any] of them,’ he said defiantly, later adding: ‘Absolutely not.’

Lorraine returns 9am on ITV while The Chase is available to watch on ITV Player.
