The 4-division titleholder in Canelo Alvarez is one of the most reputed boxers in the world. Moreover, he is a global superstar and is also one of the richest athletes.

However, none of this was given to him, he had to earn his empire, and earn he did. Canelo Alvarez had to suffer several adversities in his life and boxing career, to attain the top spot. That said, he dealt with extreme poverty in his childhood and began working at an early age.

Alvarez admitted that he adopted a working culture that he has at age 30, at the tender age of 5. While in conversation with Graham Bensinger, the super middleweight champion opened up about how those days shaped him to have a great work ethic.

“Since I was five, I worked with my father. He taught me to work a lot. By age five, I already wanted to get on the buses and sell popsicles.

“But my father said, ‘Not yet, not yet’. So when I turned seven, I started selling popsicles on buses. And the truth is, I have always said that my father taught us to work, to be responsible. I owe my father a lot because he taught us to be men of good values,” said Canelo Alvarez.

What’s next for Canelo Alvarez?

The WBA and WBC 168 lbs champion will put his titles on the line against WBO super middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders in a massive unification fight on May 8th. While many see it as a tough challenge, Alvarez seems to look at it as a gateway to bigger fights.

Since grabbing the super middleweight belts in December, the P4P king has defended them in February and is on the verge of expanding his empire.

He has also aimed at a potential showdown against IBF champion Caleb Plant and seems to continue his dominance in the sport.
