Who is Rickie Fowler’s Caddie Joe Skovron? Everything You Need to Know About Their Relationship

Rickie Fowler is one of the most talented golfers on the PGA Tour. His form slump is just temporary, and Fowler will once again get back to winning ways. The Oklahoma State alum has trusted just one man to caddie for him ever since joining the PGA Tour. There’s a lot that constructs their relationship besides just the player/caddie combination.

Rickie Fowler called Joe Skovron to caddie for him on the tour back in 2010. Skovron is from Murrieta, California, the same place where Fowler grew up. The duo has known each other since Fowler was four years old.

How did Joe Skovron and Rickie Fowler form a professional partnership?

Skovron was born in a very sacred sporting family. He informed ‘The Caddie Network’ that the main emphasis was on golf and that he basically grew up on a golf course. Joe Skovron did have dreams of making it to the tour himself but ended his pursuit after a few failed attempts.

Skovron then took charge as the head coach of the University of La Verne and he guided them to a second-place finish at the 2009 Division III NCAA Championships. However, the stint lasted for only a single season as Rickie Fowler came calling during this period. Skovron eventually gave up his job and took up the caddying position.

Fowler and Skovron did not meet right out of the blue. Skovron’s father has been running Valley Junior Golf Association in California since 1990. Players like Rickie Fowler and Brendan Steele were a part of the junior golf program there and learned a lot from Skovron’s dad.

So it can be said that Rickie Fowler and Joe Skovron are lifelong friends. They go way back, and their professional relationship has reaped plenty of success.

How much does Fowler pay his caddie?

The finances of the contract between Skovron and Fowler really don’t matter. They both enjoy working with each other and that thought has been keeping their relationship going strong since 2009.

Skovron began working with Fowler before he turned pro and caddied for him at a few tournaments. Fowler turned pro after the 2009 Walker Cup, and Joe Skovron has been carrying his bag on the tour ever since.

As for the numbers, there is no exact information as to how much Rickie Fowler pays his caddie on a weekly or monthly basis. However, one can expect to be in the range of $1,800-$2,000 per week (or more). This is the average weekly base pay for the caddies on the PGA Tour.

Of course, there will be bonuses and the looper will get paid more if the player achieves a good finish at a tournament. For Rickie Fowler and Joe Skovron, it is not the money that drives them, but the solid bond that’s kept them in connection for nearly three decades.
