Casper Ruud Knocks Out Felix Auger Aliassime in Straight Sets in the 1st Round of Mutua Madrid Open 2021

Canadian tennis sensation Felix Auger Aliassime played his opening round match against Casper Ruud at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021. The Norwegian tennis player caused an upset by beating the rising star.

The match ended in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, which lasted for a little over 90 minutes minutes. It was their second match and after today’s result, they share the spoils with one win each.

Set 1: Casper Ruud rushes away with the first set over Felix Auger Aliassime

As the match began, Ruud stepped up the ante and served brilliantly. On the other hand, Felix Auger Aliassime was not serving up to the mark and was winning just 28% of his second serve points.

Casper was ruthless and did not give his opponent a glimpse of a breakpoint, whereas Felix was broken twice in the first set. Overall, Casper won 30 out of the 48 points in the set as compared to Felix’s 18 points. In the end, the effects were reflected in the scoreline when the Norwegian player claimed the first set 6-1.

Set 2: Felix Auger Aliassime’s efforts seemed less for the occasion

Felix raised his level after conceding the opening set with ease. However, Ruud’s focus was spot on, and in the seventh game of the second set, he handed Auger Aliassime the break. In the next game, he consolidated the break and held serve by hitting an ace past his opponent.

In the next game, Felix saved a match point on his serve. However, Casper had other plans and sealed the set 6-4, holding serve in the following game.

This result comes as a disappointment for the Auger Aliassime camp. After appointing Toni Nadal as a coach, there were huge expectations from the new look and exciting combination. As these are still early days, the Canadian rising star will only get better with time and learn from his errors.

The 20-year-old player will now shift focus towards the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome. After that, he will be seen on the courts of Roland Garros for the second Grand Slam of the season.
