Donald Cerrone Gets a New Opponent After Diego Sanchez Fight Falls Off
Donald Cerrone will make the walk to the UFC octagon for a record-equalling 37th time this weekend. Cerrone was initially set to face fellow veteran Diego Sanchez. However, Sanchez withdrew from the bout and was subsequently released from the UFC.
This meant that the UFC had to find a short-notice replacement for ‘Cowboy’. Thanks to the depth of talent in the welterweight division, finding a short-notice replacement for ‘Cowboy’ was not a problem.
According to recent reports, the UFC veteran will be taking on Alex Morono in a three-round welterweight clash this weekend as he aims to bounce back from a four-fight skid.

Can Donald Cerrone get back into the win column this weekend?
Cerrone has been in the UFC for a decade now. In that time, he has fought in multiple weight classes and has come close to becoming the champion on a few occasions. However, at 38, ‘Cowboy’ does not have a lot of time left in the fight game. Unfortunately, if the fight does not go his way this weekend, it might be the end of the road for Cerrone in the UFC.
From November 2018 to May 2019, ‘Cowboy’ notched up three consecutive wins. Two of those wins came via impressive finishes. However, since then results have not been going his way. ‘Cowboy’ is currently 0-4 in his last four fights. His most recent fight against Niko Price in September 2020 was also a loss. However, it was overturned to a no-contest after Price tested positive for Marijuana.
Following his last fight, White stated that he would have to consider Cerrone’s future in the UFC. Cerrone’s future most definitely depends on how he performs this weekend.
Morono has been in the UFC since January 2016. He is currently 1-2 in his last three fights. In his most recent outing, he succumbed to a unanimous decision loss to Anthony Pettis in December 2020.
Although the fight is on short notice, Morono has an excellent opportunity to not only bounce back into the win column this weekend but also secure a win over one of the biggest names in the UFC.
