After starting his career at Liverpool, he went on to star for Newcastle, Reading, Fulham and Blackburn.

Following a brief spell playing in Indonesia he returned to England to join League Two Walsall in 2019 but he was released by them in February.

Now he is looking to add a memorable chapter to his career as he prepares to head to Iceland on his latest venture.

Guthrie is due to arrive in the country this week where he will be quarantined before then starting to train with his new team-mates.

After the move was confirmed, the ex-England youth international said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Fram FC, a club with a fantastic history.

“I can not wait to get to Iceland, meet my coach, my team-mates and work hard to get into good shape to start competing and winning games.”

Fram’s campaign kicks-off on Thursday when they take on Víkingur Olafsvik.

His new manager Jon Sveinsson said: “This issue came up to us unexpectedly and we thought it was a very exciting opportunity.

“It was difficult to miss this opportunity and we hope that with his experience and character he will come strong into a strong group.

“I have no doubt that he will push people on their toes and be a good addition to a good team.”

Fram chairman Asgrimur Helgi Einarsson added: “Danny brings a lot of experience and professional thinking to our group and will not least be a great role model and energy in the club’s youth work, where we will also enjoy his energy.

“There is a lot of enthusiasm in the players, staff and supporters and we have to thank the many people within the club who are making Danny’s signing a reality.”
