Is Tik Tok down?
People who downloaded the popular app reported issues on both iPhones and Android devices.
According to Down Detector, a service that identifies when service providers suffer technology fails, there was a spike in reports of TikTok being down before 9 pm on May 3rd.
Hundreds of users reported problems with the hugely popular app ranging from an inability to show likes and views on videos and followers disappearing.
Others complained about issues logging into the service, as well as difficulties uploading content.
The firm announced to TikTokers that they are working to solve the issue.
TikTok tweeted: “We’re aware of an issue that is causing some accounts’ Following and/or Followers count to appear as zero.
“We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this.”
How do I know if the app is offline?
Independent outage monitor Down Detector registered a spike in ‘TikTok down’ reports.
Users have also reported issues on other sites, including Twitter.
Nearly 5,000 people reported issues with the video site.
Issues included having problems viewing videos, logging in and uploading videos to the site.
People took to social media to complain about the problems, with one simply tweeting: “Me scrolling through Twitter to see if anyone else’s tiktok is broken.”
Another one said: “So TikTok is down, what should I do with my life ? Revise for my exams? I think tf not.”
A third added: “Tiktok has been down for 5 minutes and I legit don’t know what to do with myself.”
What is TikTok?
TikTok, one of the world’s most downloaded phone app, first launched in the United States in 2018.
The social media app allows, which users to create and share video clips with music and camera effects, was founded by the entrepreneur Zhang Yiming.
It is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance.
The Chinese version of the app, called Douyin, was created in 2016.
