One of tennis’s greatest assets, Roger Federer, has been a role model for youngsters over the years. The flawless manner in which he conducts himself on the court and off it is noteworthy. There have been many emerging players who have declared their admiration for the Swiss ace.

Recently, Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti spoke highly of Roger Federer and remembered the first time he’d come across the tennis legend. Interestingly, he saw the 39-year-old player competing in a doubles match in Rome. To date, whenever he visits the venue, his heart starts racing.

The Italian tennis player stated, “I was a child, but the memories are clear. I took my place on a packed pitch to see my hero Roger Federer play in doubles. Since then, every time I enter the Foro Italico my heart beats fast. I never thought I’d get there by having to defend last year’s round of 16, but Rome is the place in the world where I want to do well.”

Lorenzo Musetti wants to emulate Roger Federer

Hailing from Italy, Musetti wishes to perform well at the Rome Masters. He intends to have a long career and play at least until he turns 35 years of age, similar to Federer. Lorenzo dreams of being a World No. 1 and is aware of the hard work it would take for him to achieve his targets.

The 19-year-old athlete from Italy further added, “I’ll be 29… I’m hoping for a Grand Slam tournament. I imagine a long career: taking care of your body you play up to 35 years, in the case of Roger Federer, even 40. I’d like to become world number one, like him. But I’m not the only one who dreams of it.”

Speaking of recent events, Musetti was competing in Madrid but failed to go past the second qualifying round. He will now shift focus towards the Rome Masters. On the other hand, Federer is expected to be seen in the ATP 250 event in Geneva. After that, he will be seen on the courts of Roland Garros.
