“More Sorry Than Alonso” – Sebastian Vettel’s Ex-Rival Questions His Character Amid His Aston Martin F1 Struggles

Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso, in their own ways, are both trying to make a comeback this season. The German left from Ferrari after what was a nightmarish association and is now driving for Aston Martin. Meanwhile, the Spaniard has returned to Formula 1 after two years and is driving for Alpine F1.

Unfortunately, both the drivers expected more from this season. In the three races that have happened so far, Vettel has failed to score a point yet and Alonso has managed to claim only five points.

Maximilian Götz, who drove against Sebastian Vettel for 10 years before the latter came to F1. He compared the German with Alonso and explained the reason for the former’s difficult run with Aston Martin.

He said, “Sebastian was always careful that the team build a car for him. But at the end of the day, the driver always has to adjust to the car a bit. He now joined the team. Everything is new. The teammate did a great job last year. You have to hit it first.

“Sebastian has always been a little more sorry than Alonso. He sits in and is quick in any car. It’s always a question of character and a driving style that you as a racing driver have in you. Sebastian has to adapt first and that’s not that easy.”

This could be the last chance for Sebastian Vettel, claims Götz

The former Ferrari driver had a rough season last year. The Maranello breakup was not helpful, but he moved to Aston Martin with the hope to redeem himself. However, the team is struggling with the 2021 regulations and the season is not quite going how Vettel would’ve imagined.

Götz believes that this could be the last chance for Vettel in Formula 1. He said, “He knows what he wants. This is also his last chance, he knows that too. Maybe that’s the reason why he can’t drive so freely and the pressure builds up.”

Sebastian Vettel pictured his 2021 season much differently, and hopefully he can start competing for podium finishes once again as the team roll out updates throughout the season.

Do you believe Götz is correct and Seb’s time in F1 is truly coming to an end? Or do you think the German can still surprise us?
