New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman Expects QB Daniel Jones To Make a ‘Major Stride’ in 2021

The New York Giants enter the 2021 season with high expectations. The franchise has used the offseason and the draft to load up on its offense.

First signing free-agent wide receiver Kenny Golladay to a blockbuster deal, the franchise went one up by drafting another highly-rated rookie wide receiver in Kadarius Toney with their first-round pick.

The franchise also has other elite offensive talents in the form of running back Saquan Barkley and tight end Evan Ingram. But we all know that no offense is complete without a solid quarterback.

And that man currently for the New York Giants is Daniel Jones. Drafted sixth overall by the franchise in 2019, the quarterback’s two seasons in the NFL so far have been a mixed bunch.

With an injury limiting his performances in 2020, New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman though believes that next season is when Daniel Jones make the leap.

While appearing on WFAN, Gettleman talked about the Giants’ goals and ambitions. And also what he expects from his team’s starting QB.

“Obviously, this will be a big jump,’’ Gettleman said. “This is the year, Year 2 to Year 3, that Daniel should really make a major stride.”

It’s important to remember that Eli Manning, the last quarterback to guide the franchise to a Super Bowl title in 2007, too took some time to get into his stride. And it looks like the franchise too is hoping for the same from Jones.

“We’re looking forward to seeing him thrive. At the end of the day, we’ll make our decisions… We believe in Daniel. I said that last week. It hasn’t changed. And we’ll just keep moving.’’

Jones injured his right hamstring last season during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. This saw him sit out multiple games last season and ultimately also had a role to play in the Giants not making the playoffs.

Daniel Jones is expected to be fit in time for the 2021 season. And now with an offense loaded with young talent, the quarterback must treat his third season as a make or break for his career in the NFL.
