“Will Do Everthing To Get Back to the Top”: Roger Federer Issues Caution to Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic
Tennis sensation Roger Federer returned to Tour after a period of 14 months. After his semifinal defeat to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open last year, the Swiss maestro was forced to undergo two knee surgeries. Due to that, he was on the sidelines for over a year.
Recently, Roger Federer made his comeback at the ATP 250 event in Doha. During the tournament, the Swiss ace won his opening round match but lost in the following round. However, he was content with his performance after returning after a lengthy duration. He intends to play the French Open this year and has issued an indirect warning to his rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
Speaking on his future plans, Federer stated, “I will do everything, to get back to the top after my surgery and the long pause due to that. As long as I am happy and healthy I will continue to play. Now, before you even ask me for how long, I must tell you, I don’t know, honestly.”
Roger Federer’s will to compete still remains high
The Swiss superstar’s affection for the game comes second to none. He underwent two surgeries at the age of 39, and therefore, the road to full fitness was longer. He spoke about his desire to continue playing for as long as he is happy with his performance and remains in good shape.
Federer seems good to go and will target a return at the ATP 250 event in Geneva. After that, he will compete at the ATP 1000 Masters event in Rome, which will be followed by the French Open soon after.
Once the clay-court season finishes, he will shift focus to his beloved grass-court season. He will play on the grass courts at Halle in Germany before heading to London for the Wimbledon Championships. The artistic Swiss athlete will have his best chance to claim a Grand Slam title in South West 19, London.
