The current series of The Syndicate has been winning over viewers since arriving earlier in 2021 – but will there be more episodes of the show in the future?

The drama has been a fixture on our screens since back in 2012 and returned for its fourth run after six years away.

With the current series set to wrap up after episode six, fans are already speculating about new episodes.

Each run of the show focuses on a different group of players who win the lottery, following their lives as they adapt to becoming millionaires.

The latest instalment tells the story of a group of kennel workers who hit the jackpot together – only for their newsagent to appear to steal their winnings.

But are there further episodes of the show on the way? Here’s everything we know so far.

The good news is, it looks likely that there’s going to be new episodes of the show.

Speaking to the Daily Star, writer Kay Mellor revealed that she is already working on ideas for the plot of an upcoming fifth series.

She said: ‘It took six years for the current series to come to screen.

‘But there’s something cooking. The ingredients are there, so it’s there. But it’s not cooked up yet.’

There’s a different project to look out for in the meantime, with Kay adding: ‘Before I do more of The Syndicate, I have something else I’m cooking up.’

It’s difficult to speculate on the plot and the cast of any upcoming series, given that each run of the series focuses on a different group of characters who win the lottery.

The current series of the show stars Line of Duty’s Neil Morrissey and follows a group who win an unbelievable £27million.

However, they are told they only won a few hundred and their local shop owner then jets off around the world, presumably using their winnings to foot the bill.

It stars the likes of Taj Atwal, Kieran Urquhart, Katherine Rose Morley, Liberty Hobb, Emily Head, Kym Marsh, Gaynor Faye and Joe Sugg, who made his first TV acting appearance in the drama with an impressive northern accent.

When is the Syndicate series 5 release date?

As things stand, a fifth series of The Syndicate has yet to be confirmed by the BBC.

The Syndicate is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
