“Talk and Text All the Time”: Hornest GM Reveals How Michael Jordan is Helping LaMelo Ball

Michael Jordan might have had one of the greatest careers in NBA history, but the same cannot be said about his time as an owner of the Charlotte Hornets. Ever since he became the majority owner of the Hornets, MJ hasn’t had much success.

From terrible draft-day decisions to giving hefty contracts to mediocre players like Nicolas Batum, the Hornets have had their fair share of woeful decisions under ‘His Airness‘.

But the team is finally turning a tide this season. After drafting an exciting guard in LaMelo Ball and signing a talented player in Gordon Hayward, the Hornets are finally playing some exciting basketball and might make the Playoffs for the first time in 5 seasons.

Mitch Kupchak reveals the dynamic between Michael Jordan and LaMelo Ball

GM Mitch Kupchak has been pretty influential in the Hornets’ turnaround recently. Be it signing Terry Rozier or bringing in Hayward, the veteran executive has made some excellent moves in the last two seasons.

Given that the team is owned by the GOAT himself, one would expect the Jordan would be pretty influential behind the scenes. Kupchak recently spoke about the influence Jordan has on players and especially rookie LaMelo Ball.

“He was at our game [Saturday] night, but because of the testing requirements, he couldn’t even get down to the locker room and say hello to anybody. But they did talk, and I know Michael gives him tips.

“I would guess that when we emerge from this COVID world, Michael will spend time with him on the court, but I don’t know that [for sure].

“Michael lives in Florida; he’s up here quite a bit. He loves to come to practice and watch, he doesn’t interfere with the coaches.

“He doesn’t know what the coaches are teaching, so he doesn’t want to get on the court and teach something different. But I know he and LaMelo talk and text all the time.”

Ball has proven that he was worth all the hype and has impressed with his impeccable passing skills. Can LaMelo Ball become the franchise cornerstone for MJ and the Hornets?
