AEW Makes A Huge Announcement For It’s Upcoming PPV Double or Nothing
Following the notorious Blood and Guts episode of Dynamite, AEW announced the first match for the upcoming Double or Nothing pay-per-view with AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida and World Champion Kenny Omega.
As announced on Dynamite, the longest-reigning AEW Women’s Champion (or any champion) will face number one contender Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. at the event. Shida won her title at last year’s event as she defeated Nyla Rose.
Since then, Shida remained undefeated. On February 25, 2021, she became the longest-reigning overall champion in AEW history, breaking the previous record of 277 days set by former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.
Shida recently defeated Tay Conti to retain her title. Britt Baker, on the other hand, has been coming through with her matches. She never fully pursued the Women’s title, but her rivalries are well known.

Following the announcement, at the AEW Blood and Guts episode, Baker (with Rebel) defeated Julia Hart. The match was fairly quick as Baker made Hart submit following a lockjaw hold.
Baker’s recent ‘lights out’ match against Thunder Rosa was the first all-women main event in AEW history. Baker’s performance in the match got praise from several legends and Hall of Famers, including Mick Foley. You can check Baker’s reaction to the announcement below –

Hikaru Shida vs Britt Baker is not the only match announced for Double or Nothing
Apart from the Women’s title, AEW announced another title match for the third anniversary of the PPV. AEW World Champion Kenny Omega came out and announced his own match.
Next week, AEW will arrange a number one contender match between Orange Cassidy and PAC, and the winner will face Omega at Double or Nothing.

Following the announcement, Cassidy came out. Omega made fun of Cassidy’s inexperience and appearance. “The cleaner” claimed that Cassidy was not “championship material,” and claimed Cassidy ripped off his glasses from Omega.
He also laughed at the idea of Cassidy winning the match and claimed Cassidy can face Omega in ten years when the former is a ‘real man.’ Kenny Omega and MT Nakazawa had the opening match of the episode, where they faced Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston. The latter team won the match as Moxley pinned Nakazawa.
