“I Like to Get Out of the Routine”: Rafael Nadal Opens Up on His Experience at Madrid Open 2021 Bubble

The coronavirus pandemic has surely restricted all the players to move out freely. Whether they play in Madrid or in Rome, they are not allowed to go out of their health bubble. However, the restrictions are a little less at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021 as fans saw Rafael Nadal socializing a little bit in Madrid.

In a recent interview, World No.2 Rafael Nadal talked about his experience at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021 bubble so far. Rafa admitted that he misses going out and traveling to different places during tournaments. He has a family that lives in Madrid and thus, he misses to go and chill out with them- a thing he used to do during the Madrid Open in the previous years.

“It is contact with people in the end what you miss the most because I have a part of my family here following the games and I can’t see them or go out to dinner,” said Nadal in the interview. (Translated by Google Translate)

Rafa stated that he just loves to travel to nearby places during tournaments. He believes that a small tour gives the players a bit of relaxation and takes away their stress and tension.

“I like to get out of the routine of the day-to-day tournament a bit. Being able to go out for two hours to dinner allowed us to disconnect taking into account what a normal day is like, having been focused most of the day on the game and on recovery after,” added the Spaniard.

Rafa accepted that he usually doesn’t stay at his hotels on any tour as he loves to explore and travel. In the same interview, he also raised hopes that a day will come soon when everything will return back to normal.

“I don’t stay because we are always in good accommodation and, as far as possible, we have at our disposal the more important things. We can return to normality,” concluded the 20-time Grand Slam champion.

Rafael Nadal recently defeated Alexei Popyrin in the pre-quarters of the Mutua Madrid Open 2021. He’ll now advance to the quarters and will either Alexander Zverev or British No.1 Dan Evans there. Will Rafa be able to win his sixth title in Madrid this year before advancing to Paris?
