Today Nick Hewer filmed his last episode of Countdown and Rachel Riley shared some hilarious photos of the host to commemorate the occasion.

Nick, 77, has presented the show for nine years but announced he was stepping down to ‘get a dog’ and will be replaced by The Weakest Link’s Anne Robinson, 76, later this year.

Earlier today Rachel posted behind-the-scenes photos of the host dressing up in false eyelashes and a wig on her Twitter account.

‘Posting these in honour of @Nick_Hewer’s last ever Countdown filming day with us (😱 )!!! @susie_dent,’ she wrote.

‘After nearly a whole decade, it’s not going to be the same around here without Hewer the Skewer!’

He can be seen sitting in a leopard print gown with long and luscious lashes in one picture. In another, he can be seen wearing a brunette wig.

Fans were quick to flock to the Twitter post to pass on their well wishes.

‘You have been such a great team bringing pleasure into my home every afternoon,’ one person wrote.

‘Nick is a true national treasure, will be sorely missed and a hard act to follow. Enjoy your retirement Nick. Onto a new era for Countdown with some trepidation.’

Nick confirmed his departure from Countdown in December in a heartwarming statement shared on Twitter which revealed he would be retiring.

‘I’ve decided it’s a good time to step down at the end of my contract in the New Year,’ he penned.

‘As someone in his 77th year, who will be in his 10th year hosting the great British institution that is Countdown, I think it’s time to smell the flowers and get a dog.’

Nick said it had been a ‘privilege and a pleasure’ to be part of the show for so many years as he thanked his co-stars Rachel and Susie.

Countdown airs weekdays at 2.10pm on Channel 4.
