Romesh Ranganathan has opened up about the performance he put on for Prince Charles and Camilla, admitting he was really nervous.

To be fair, who wouldn’t be?

The comedian has appeared in front of royalty more than once, most recently making the audience laugh at the Royal Variety Performance in 2019.

During a stint on the Jonathan Ross show, the 43-year-old spilled the beans on what went down behind the scenes.

‘I did the Royal Variety a couple of times. After the first time, I got invited to do Charles and Camilla’s staff Christmas “do”,’ he told the host.

‘I was quite nervous about it. I would say 95% of my material is “Royal unsuitable’. I was a little bit worried.

‘They’re all there with all their staff. Charles and Camilla at the front. Every time I did a punchline, the staff would wait for them to laugh first…

‘Everyone would look, they’d laugh and then they’d laugh as if, that is funny, you’re right.’

Romesh was given hosting duties for the Royal Variety Performance in 2019, alongside pal and fellow comedian Rob Beckett, celebrating 107 years of the bash.

Appearing on stage at the London Palladium, the star joked about the historic booking, telling the crowd: ‘It’s taken them 106 of these until they decided to brown it up.

‘And then they diluted it by making me host it with the whitest person on TV. It’s unbelievable.

‘We are not a double act. When your nan watches it she will think you hosted it with your Uber driver.’

The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday, at 9.35pm, on ITV.
