Aryna Sabalenka to Jump Past Bianca Andreescu and Elina Svitolina to Make Top 5 Debut After Mutua Madrid Open 2021

Aryna Sabalenka can now look up proudly as she will make her WTA top 5 debut after the conclusion of Mutua Madrid Open 2021. Sabalenka will play the final against World No.1 Ashleigh Barty and irrespective of the result in the crucial match, the Belarusian will move into the top five.

Before the Madrid Open, Sabalenka was ranked 7th with 5205 points. Above her were Bianca Andreescu in 6th, Elina Svitolina in 5th, and Sofia Kenin in 4th. And now as she reached the finals, Sabalenka will atleast add 640 to her ranking points. So if Sabalenka is the runner-up in Madrid then her total becomes 5845. That is enough for her to go past Svitolina who has 5835 and Andreescu who has 5265 points.

What will happen if Aryna Sabalenka wins Madrid Open 2021?

If Sabalenka manages to beat Ash Barty in the finals, then she could go above Kenin in fourth. The American has 5915 and will lose ten points from 2019. Sabalenka on the other hand would add 990 points if she is the winner, which would propel her to 6195 points and take the fourth spot in the rankings.

Sabalenka’s rivals in Svitolina, Andreescu, and Kenin either didn’t play in Madrid or didn’t perform well. The North American duo of Kenin and Andreescu didn’t play in Madrid whereas Svitolina was ousted in the first round itself.

Sabalenka is already at her highest career ranking in 7th. Just in November 2020, she made her top 10 debut and now has quickly jumped the ladder to soon make her top 5 debut. She won three titles in 2020, which helped her earn the 10th spot in the rankings.

In 2021, she already has one title and lost the Stuttgart Final a couple of weeks ago against Barty itself. If Sabalenka upstages the Australian in Madrid, it will be a huge boost and potentially push her as a candidate for the French Open 2021 title.
