“Let’s Destroy Them on Clay!”: Serena Williams’ Coach Patrick Mouratoglou Plans a Tough Training Ahead of French Open 2021

23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams has sunk her teeth into the French Open 2021 preparations. With Roland Garros less than a month away, she is ready to take her training to the next level.

The 39-year-old began her practice sessions nearly a week ago at the Patrick Mouratoglou Academy in France. She is now through with her first pair of training shoes and waiting to get on with the next.

Serena Williams updates on her French Open 2021 preparations

Serena Williams took to Instagram to show her week’s progress on the clay surface. But only this time, instead of an intense prep on the court, she shared the status of her training shoes.

Naturally, the white pair of her Nike shoes disappeared behind a layer of red dirt. To ardent tennis fans and even some players, shoes covered in clay are a sight for sore eyes.

However, the three-time French Open champion teased her fans by showing a new cleaner pair of training shoes. It is arguably one of the best ways to keep track of improvement. Serena summarised the video in one word, Next.

What made things even more interesting is the comment from her coach. Additionally, it also clarified how much Patrick Mouratoglou and Serena are excited about the French Open.

Frenchman Mouratoglou wrote, “The second pair is too clean. Let’s destroy them on clay!”

Given the enthusiasm, Serena’s clay season will be worthwhile. But on a concerning note, the tennis queen has not yet played a single tournament on red soil in 2021. Hence, she might play soon to get match experience before the start of Roland Garros.

Where can Serena play before Roland Garros?

Coach Mouratoglou earlier revealed that he expects Serena to play the Italian Open 2021. Since the event begins on May 10, it is aligned perfectly to analyze her training sessions.

Moreover, Rome will conclude on May 16, which will give her two more weeks to make revisions before Paris. Her final decision is much-anticipated.

Whether Serena participates in Rome or not, she has built excitement around her French Open campaign. It would be interesting to see the impact of her preparations on her chase towards the 24th Grand Slam title.
