Marvin Humes says lockdown was ‘the best time’ to become a dad again to son Blake: ‘We had so much time with him’
Marvin Humes has said lockdown was ‘the best time’ for him and wife Rochelle to become parents again.
The couple, who are already parents to daughters Alaia-Mai, seven, and Valentina, four, welcomed son Blake in October 2020.
The TV presenter told Metro.co.uk how fortunate they were to be able to spend more time with their baby boy as everyone was at home due to lockdown.
It differed from when he and Rochelle had Alaia-Mai and Valentina as they were both part of popular pop groups JLS and The Saturdays respectively.
Marvin confessed he only managed to get couple of weeks off to be with their eldest as the pair had to ‘carry on’ with their band commitments at the time.
He said: ‘It’s probably been the best time [becoming a dad again]. With Alaia and Valentina, we both went back to work after a certain amount of time.
‘Especially with Alaia, we were both still in our bands. Roch had a really, really small amount of maternity leave. I probably only had a week or two. We just had to carry on really. Vallie was not as crazy as that because we were no longer in the bands, we had a bit more time on our hands.
‘With Blake, he was born in October, we were under a lot of restrictions and we were still working from home and staying at home.
‘We had such quality time with him. He’s six months old, one of us has been at home all day every day at least. We’ve spent the most time with Blake at this age, which has been lovely.’
The Everybody In Love singer has joined forces with Onken to encourage the nation to share their Family Recipes as part of Onken’s Family Recipe Day on May 16.
He has spent a lot of his extra time at home cooking with family, whipping up his specialty of tikka masala skewers (‘It’s the ease and convenience of this dish that does it for me’) as well as creations with a nod to his Caribbean heritage.
‘I’ve always been lucky to be surrounded by good food obviously, I’ve come from mixed race household as well,’ Marvin shared.
‘Rochelle and I have two recipes that my dad showed us. One is called Saturday soup, it’s the ultimate Caribbean chick soup handed down first from my grandad, and then Rochelle learnt that recipe.
‘That’s what happens with family isn’t it? The handing down of recipes and that’s the great thing about this campaign – it’s a bit of fun for the family to get together and the kids can get involved.’
