BBC Breakfast host Naga Munchetty celebrated a ‘small’ life win on Friday as she was deemed too young-looking to buy some wine without her ID.

The news broadcaster, 46, certainly does have a youthful visage, so we can’t say we’re too surprised.

Sharing her glee on Twitter, she wrote: ‘Am winning at life in a small way this morning…

‘Just been refused to be sold a bottle of wine at the local supermarket by the lovely lady at the till because I had no I.D.’

She happily concluded her message with a ‘YES!’, a crying laughing emoji and a thumbs up, which does sum it up perfectly.

Naga’s BBC colleague Sophie Raworth, 52, replied with a similar tale, writing: ‘I got ‘carded’ recently to see if I was over 25 in a supermarket. I was wearing a mask and a hat to be fair. But still.’

Looking youthful appears to be a common theme among news presenters, as Sky News journalist Jayne Secker also weighed in.

The 48-year-old tweeted: ‘Well done. I was ‘checked’ by an older lady the other day who said I looked ‘much too young’ but she would let me have it. Wanted to kiss her.’

‘Not surprised you look 16 years old! #greatskinenvy,’ another of Naga’s BBC colleagues, Sangita Myska tweeted.

Fan of the morning TV presenter were quick to compliment Naga on her appearance, with one tweeting: ‘You certainly don’t look your age Naga so if someone is applying the “Challenge under 25” you definitely should take it as a compliment though I’d want my wine!’

Another wrote: ‘Wow name the skin products please lol.’

In the UK, it is illegal to purchase alcohol under the age of 18, but many shops operate a Challenge 25 policy, a scheme that encourages anyone who is over 18 but looks under 25 to carry an acceptable ID when they want to buy alcohol.

While we are thrilled for Naga that at 46 she was still considered too youthful to pass this challenge, we are gutted that she was unable to buy her wine.

Earlier this week, BBC Breakfast viewers were confused when Naga and her co-host Charlie Stayt were absent from hosting duties.

The BBC confirmed to Metro.co.uk that the pair are currently on a break from the programme, but it has not yet been confirmed when they will return.
