What did Sharon Stone say about Basic Instinct as she shuts down Adil Ray’s questions?
If Sharon Stone didn’t make it clear enough on Good Morning Britain, she’ll likely no longer be discussing her iconic role in Basic Instinct ever again.
The 63-year-old created a viral moment when she shut down presenter Adil Ray’s line of questioning about the 1992 thriller, in which she played seductive novelist Catherine Tramell alongside Michael Douglas.
Shutting Adil down in one fell swoop, Sharon said: ‘I talked about everything I really have to say about that in the book so that’s where I’m at with that.’
Sharon released her memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, in March and it made for explosive reading with a string of bombshell revelations.
So, just what did she say about Basic Instinct?
Sharon Stone’s quotes about Basic Instinct in her autobiography
Six weeks after Sharon’s manager told her she wasn’t getting hired in Hollywood because she wasn’t ‘sexy enough’, she was cast as the seductress Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct directed by Paul Verhoeven.
In the book, Sharon recalls the moment she saw ‘the scene’ for the first time. ‘The scene’ of course being the moment Catherine opens her legs to subtly expose her vagina to Douglas’ character, Detective Nick Curran, before crossing them over again.

However, the actress was made to watch the scene in a room full of agents and lawyers, many of who were not involved with the project.
‘That was how I saw my vagina-shot for the first time, long after I’d been told, “We can’t see anything—I just need you to remove your panties, as the white is reflecting the light, so we know you have panties on”,’ Sharon writes.
She continued: ‘Yes, there have been many points of view on this topic, but since I’m the one with the vagina in question, let me say: The other points of view are bulls**t.
‘Now, here is the issue. It didn’t matter anymore. It was me and my parts up there. I had decisions to make. I went to the projection booth, slapped Paul [Verhoeven] across the face, left, went to my car, and called my lawyer, Marty Singer. Marty told me that they could not release this film as it was.’
Sharon later revealed: ‘It was terrifying. I had walked in my sleep three times during production, twice waking fully dressed in my car in my garage. I had hideous nightmares.’
The actress also recalled filming the stabbing sequence in the opening scene and how she panicked as the actor ‘just lay there, unconscious’ when the director yelled cut.
‘I thought that the retractable fake ice pick had failed to retract and that I had in fact killed him,’ she wrote.
The actor was indeed passed out as had she hit him multiple times in the chest.
Reflecting on what it was like to channel such a manipulative character, Sharon admitted that playing serial killer Catherine allowed her to ‘tap into that rage’ and hailed it as ‘the most freeing thing I have ever done’.
‘Ultimately, it also let me know that I wasn’t really the stabbing type. Letting myself process that rage was magnificent, and I think letting others feel that release was a bit therapeutic for the audience. I know it’s not just me,’ she said.
