Andy Murray to Train With Old Rival Novak Djokovic at Italian Open 2021

Former World No.1 Andy Murray will make a return to the court at the French Open 2021. He last played at the ATP Rotterdam Open 2021, where he didn’t perform well. However, fans are quite excited about his return and he might even play a tournament on clay before the Grand Slam.

As per reports, Andy Murray will travel to Rome tomorrow, where he’ll train for the clay-court season. The British player will begin his clay-court campaign at either the Geneva Open or the Lyon Open. After playing in any of these tournaments, he’ll head to Paris for the French Open 2021.

Interestingly, Murray will hit the nets with World No.1 Novak Djokovic in Rome. The Serbian legend is there- practicing for the Italian Open 2021 where he has to defend his title this season.

There is more good news for Murray, as former British player Mark Petchey has joined his coaching team on a temporary basis. Petchey’s experience can yield good results for Murray, and he might succeed in Geneva or Lyon- wherever he decides to play before Roland Garros.

Andy Murray might have to play qualifiers at the French Open 2021

Chances are high that Andy Murray will not get a direct entry into the main draw of the French Open 2021. Even though he did last year, he might need to play the qualifiers this time as he is the World No.123 in the ATP rankings.

In a recent interview, he highlighted that he is not sure whether the organizers want him to win more matches by placing him in the qualifiers or not.

“They want to see me on the court competing. Whether that means I need to win matches I don’t know,” said the 3-time Grand Slam champion in the interview.

Last year, Stan Wawrinka thrashed Andy Murray in straight sets and knocked him out of the French Open in the very first round. Even though he is not in the best of his form at the moment, fans still have high expectations from him. Will Murray be able to succeed in the clay-court season this year?
