Is Genshin Impact on the Verge of Dying?

miHoYo released Genshin Impact in September 2020 and took the internet by storm. Fans not only in China, but worldwide, loved the game and highly appreciated its storyline, characters, and combat mechanics.

During the first six months of release, Genshin Impact has received 5 updates including the latest 1.5 patch. Up till now, we’ve witnessed the arrival of many five-star and four-star characters, regions, artifacts, weapons, quests, and banners.

At first glance, all these additions might seem enough to keep the user-base engaged. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes self-evident that the Genshin Impact community is currently struggling with the lack of content in the game.

Why Genshin Impact needs end-game content

One of the biggest issues in Genshin Impact currently is the lack of end-game content. Players who started playing the game in 2020 have now reached high Adventure Ranks like 55, and rarely have anything to do. They’ve explored all the regions, defeated all the enemies, farmed all the artifacts, and built the desired characters.

The only end-game objective miHoYo’s action RPG offers at the moment is the Spiral Abyss. To clear it, one has to build two teams of four characters each, and defeat a plethora of enemies in unique circumstances. Unfortunately, clearing the Spiral Abyss becomes an achievable task within a month of playing the game regularly.

Instead of releasing end-game challenges, the developers have prioritized mini-games and events. They keep the players active for a maximum of 2-3 days, which is certainly not enough.

Streamers and content creators disappointed by the latest updates

There are many big names across Twitch and YouTube that actively play Genshin Impact. It won’t be an overstatement that these content creators have suffered the most because of the lack of content.

For instance, the newly introduced housing system in the 1.5 update is a nightmare for content creators. Some items take over 10 hours to create, and the entire process is not worth streaming.

Moreover, at the end of the day, Genshin Impact is a game that involves fast-paced action and combat. Even though the housing system is a significant leisure activity, it is a gigantic leap from the meta.

YouTuber Nixo talked about their struggle as a creator in a recent video:

Any player who begins playing Genshin Impact will have new content to explore for a maximum of 2-3 months. After completing a majoirty  of domains and building almost every character, they will most probably not have any incentive to continue the journey which they loved at some point.

From the looks of it, new exploration regions, domains, combat challenges, and characters can help miHoYo regain the trust of the players. It cannot release events that just last for a few days and then expect the veterans to sit back for weeks and wait for upcoming patches.
