Italian Open 2021: All You Need to Know About the Prize Money Breakdown For ATP and WTA Players
The Italian Open 2021 will begin on May 9, 2021, and will stretch till May 16, 2021. Popularly known as the Rome Masters 2021, the tournament is one of the three Masters 1000 events that takes place on clay. Its ATP and WTA draws are out and fans are really exhilarated about the tournament.
Like other ATP and WTA tournaments, the Italian Open 2021 has also reduced its total prize money. The coronavirus pandemic is still impacting tennis adversely and organizers are unable to generate much revenue due to the absence of spectators in stadiums.
As a result, on the ATP side, there is a reduction of 39.9% of the prize money at the Italian Open this time- bringing it to a total of €2,082,960. On the WTA side, the reduction is significantly less, and the total prize money stands at €1,577,613- a decrease of 6.77% v 2020. Thus, the total prize pool at the Italian Open is €3,660,573.
This time, the ATP winner will receive €245,085- which is 19.44% more as compared to what Novak Djokovic received last year. On the other hand, the WTA champion will receive €178,630, down 12.94% compared to what Simona Halep picked up last year. The runner-ups will have pay cuts as well as on the ATP runner-up will receive €145,000 while the WTA champion will get €132,258- a cut of 3.33% and 11.83% respectively.
Good news for qualifiers at the Italian Open 2021
There is some positive news for qualifiers as there is a slight increment in their overall pay. Even though the main draw is reduced to five rounds instead of six, the final-round qualifying losers will bag €6,100- 11.52% more from last year. The prize money of the first-round losers too is more or less the same as they’ll get €8,670- 3.37% less from last year.
Surprisingly, there is a large reduction in the prize money of the middle round drops. Those who will be making it to the round of 16 will receive €28,200- a reduction of about 53.77%.
