Line of Duty star Martin Compston celebrated his and his co-star Vicky McClure’s joint birthday in the best way possible – by sharing an absolutely epic picture of the pair of them dressed as Wham! Because… why not?

On Saturday May 8, Vicky, who plays Kate Fleming in the BBC crime drama, marked her 38th birthday, while Steve Arnott actor Martin turned 37.

Their joint birthday comes just under a week after the nerve-inducing series six finale of Line of Duty, which finally revealed the identity of the mysterious bent copper known by AC-12 as ‘H’.

In a post shared on his Instagram Story, Martin paid homage to his ‘birthday twin’ Vicky, sharing a throwback picture of them dressed as Andrew Ridgeley and the late George Michael from their Wham! days.

‘WHAM Birthday twins,’ Martin wrote, before telling Vicky to ‘have a belter’.

In the picture, Vicky is dressed in a denim jacket, while Martin is donning some retro shades and wearing a ‘Choose Love’ T-shirt, similar to the ‘Choose Life’ top worn by the band members in the 1980s.

Vicky also paid homage to her ‘mate’ Martin in an Instagram post, sharing a picture of them both from a recent appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show.

‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY @mrmartincompston,’ she wrote alongside a couple of party hat emojis.

‘Sharing my birthday with one of my best mates in the world is nearly as special as getting a promotion before you!!!’ she joked.

‘Love ya mate! Have a great day dancing in the rain!! Xxx’

On the day that the final episode of Line of Duty’s sixth series aired, Martin posted a tribute to Vicky, their fellow co-star Adrian Dunbar and the show’s creator Jed Mercurio.

‘It’s been a wild few weeks and a mental 10 years with the most incredible cast & crews. None more so than the 3 above who I’d been lost without,’ he wrote in the caption.

‘It’s been the job of a lifetime only made possible by the fans tuning in year after year, series after series and for that I can’t [thank] you all enough.’

Following the release of the final instalment, Jed addressed the fans who found it disappointing in comparison to the rest of the season.

‘We’re honoured and flattered by the viewing figures for #LineofDuty6,’ he wrote on Twitter.

‘We knew attempting to explore the real nature of corruption in our society wouldn’t appeal to everyone, but we do sincerely thank you all for watching. It’s been our privilege to share your Sunday nights.’

Line of Duty is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
