Pat McAfee Reveals Vince McMahon Impression Didn’t Air on Throwback Edition of WWE SmackDown

The throwback edition of SmackDown was a success. The blue brand is firing on all cylinders with two excellent hours of wrestling. However, WWE filmed a hilarious segment featuring Vince McMahon, that was to air at the beginning of the show. Unfortunately, it never aired.

WWE filmed a hilarious segment with Pat McAfee, impersonated WWE CEO and former commentator, Vince McMahon. McAfee prepared for the role really well, but plans changed after the filming ended.

According to McAfee, the throwback edition was going to be a special one for him. He shaved for the first time in his life and prepared to lose his voice for a few weeks. The Bentley, the pastel blue suit and the strut resulted the perfect impression of the most polarising person in the business.

McAfee even sported a wig and spoke in a raspy voice similar to Vince’s. One might wonder if the impression didn’t sit well with McMahon, leading to it not airing. However, we’re glad McAfee posted the video on Twitter, as did the WWE on Fox Twitter page.

McAfee impersonated McMahon on commentary too and even channeled his inner JR by calling Kevin Owens’ Stunner on Apollo Crews. ‘Bah Gawd’, cried McAfee as Michael Cole cheekily snorted at him.

Quick SmackDown results

The throwback edition of SmackDown opened with a promo from Paul Heyman and Roman Reigns. After banishing Daniel Bryan from SmackDown, Reigns called the death knell on Bryan’s career. While the ten-bell salute is for deceased wrestlers, Heyman’s ‘ding’ trended on Twitter purely based on Reigns and Jey Uso’s reactions.

Cesaro beat Seth Rollins to become the #1 contender for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania Backlash. Teddy Long surprised Roman with the announcement, and Cesaro fought off interruptions from Jey Uso to win. The opening hour also saw the return of Jimmy Uso, who chided Jey’s involvement in Reigns’ battles.

Bayley cut a promo, name-dropping some iconic SmackDown female talent, and then claiming she’s better than them. The SmackDown Tag Team Championship match for Backlash became official. The Dirty Dogs will defend their titles against the father-son duo of Rey and Dominik Mysterio.

Finally, we saw Cesaro laying waste to Roman Reigns and Jimmy Uso prevented his brother from saving Roman. Top quality storytelling and great action rounded off a perfect night for SmackDown.
