Shopper nabs nearly £1k’s worth of Debenhams’ goodies for £100 – & is reminded of ‘workers’ livelihoods’ as shop closes

A THRIFTY shopper scored the deal of a lifetime after bagging almost £1,000 worth of goodies for just £100 in the Debenhams closing down sale.

The department store announced that it will be closing down all 49 branches that remain open, with shoppers able to score up to 80% off on all fashion and homeware items.

Not wanting to miss out on some eye-watering deals, a keen shopper hit up the sales and nabbed herself a selection of boots, jackets, underwear, shoes and even new bedding.

Showing off her meg haul on Facebook, she wrote: “£907 worth of things from Debenhams for £105. Coat should’ve been £110 alone!”

The coat in question is a black down jacket, perfect for the cool UK weather.

While it’s not known exactly how much she nabbed the items for, the carload of goodies would indicate they were super cheap if the whole lot came to just £105.

Other members of the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group were seriously impressed by the mega haul, even showing off some of their own mega hauls.

“I got £150 worth of stuff for £18 yesterday at Blackpool store!” one person revealed.

“I got loads of bras, buy one get one free. Amazing bargains,” said another.

But while many raved about the great deal, some made note of the poor staff who have all lost their jobs.

“Couldn’t believe the abuse some of the staff on the tills were getting from people though….. Please remember that these people have all lost their jobs, so it’s a sad time for them,” one person said.

And another fumed: “Its thier lively hoods they have rent mortgages bills family to pay for how the hell would you feel Cant believes how kindness has soon been forgotten by bargain hunters (sic).”

All remaining stores are set to close their doors for good on either May 12 or May 15, depending on stock levels.

Deals will only be available while stocks last though so you won’t want to hang around or you risk missing out.

Many shoppers have already said their local stores have “no bargains left”.

The department store reopened 97 of its stores on April 12 as lockdown restrictions were eased.

But the struggling retailer has only welcomed back customers in a bid to shift stock before closing branches permanently.

The department store has already closed 59 of its shops since then, with the first 16 branches shutting down on May 2.

A spokesperson for Debenhams said: “Over the next 10 days, Debenhams will close its doors on the high street for the final time in its 242 year history.

“Our sincere thanks go out to all of our colleagues and customers who have joined us on this journey.

“We hope to see you all one last time in stores before we say a final goodbye to the UK high street.”
