Zach LaVine Etches His Name Alongside Michael Jordan in Yet Another Chicago Bulls’ Scoring Record

Michael Jordan is synonymous with everything that is good and positive about the Chicago Bulls. When any Bulls player is mentioned in the same breath as him, they know that they have made it in the NBA. That’s exactly what Zach LaVine did last night.

In the 121-99 win over Boston Celtics, he notched up 25 points to his name. Coincidentally, this was the 100th straight game where he’s scored in double digits. Meaning for the last 100 games he’s played for the franchise, he’s never scored less than 10 points.

The last player to achieve that in a Bulls uniform? The one and only Michael Jordan. And the only one before His Airness was Artis Gilmore. Hence, he’s just the third player in franchise history to achieve this feat.

While Artis Gilmore’s streak ended at 138 games, Jordan’s lasted a mammoth 840 games before he headed into the sunset after winning his sixth and final championship in 1998. Truly staggering!

Zach LaVine has refuted all comparisons with Michael Jordan

Like many NBA players of his generation, LaVine grew up idolizing Michael Jordan. So, for him to play for his hero’s team and emulate him at the same time, is an incredible honor for him. And it is not the first time that he’s put his name alongside Jordan.

He’s done that a few more times this season. Back in the month of February, he played 14 games and equaled MJ with his consistent scoring spree. They are the only Bulls players to average 30+ PPG on 50/45/80% shooting in a single month. Jordan had multiple months of such performances, with the last one coming back in January 1996.

This has led to many comparisons between the two. Both play at the shooting guard position and can get buckets at their will. But Zach LaVine prefers to stay away from drawing such parallels.

Just last month, when he had his first 50-point performance, he had said in reference to Jordan, “That dude’s a ghost! He’s a myth.”

Upwards and onwards for LaVine. He can continue to make history as a scorer. With the Bulls also constantly improving, he may even have a shot at emulating his idol in the winning category.
