‘If I Win, We Could Have a Fight-Off’- Gregor Gillespie Issues an Exciting Challenge to Conor McGregor

Former UFC 2 divisional champion and promotion icon Conor McGregor continued his usual business of targeting fellow fighters over Twitter.

This time he targeted Gregor Gillespie after the latter picked up a sensational victory in his match against Carlos Diego Ferreira.

The Notorious one took to Twitter and called his shots on the term most associated with Gillespie, the best fisherman. He wrote, “This Gregor Gillespie cat is no way in hell the best fisherman in MMA. Not even fuck*n close!”

In another tweet, the Irishman claimed that he is fishing and also urged his fans to pick up the sport, stating it was a ‘relaxing occasion’.

In the post-fight interview, Gillespie was made aware of the tweet McGregor posted. ‘The Gift’ then gave his take on the same. “Okay, so I mean, we could do a couple of things.

“If he wants to settle that score, first we could definitely do a fish off and then if I win, we could have a fight-off. How’s that sound?”

Gillespie then went ahead and explained that McGregor has a legion of followers and this callout from the Irish powerhouse could bring him some new fans. Perhaps some who share his enthusiasm for fishing.

“Now, that’s cool, that’s pretty, that’s flattering. I mean, he’s got a huge audience. Hopefully, I pick up a few followers from that”

However, he declared that when it came to wishing, he is unbeatable.

How Gregor Gillespie won his fight?

Talking about Gillespie’s recent match, the fight started with Ferreira coming on strong, overwhelming Gillespie with heavy punches.

Seeing no other alternative, the latter pushed for a takedown but was thwarted by Ferreira’s astute defense. Gillespie found an opening towards the end and went in for the submission, but ran out of time.

In the second round, Gillespie focussed more on wrestling than striking, but Ferreira was still in control. However, a negligible mistake from the latter allowed Gillespie to take control, and he opened Ferreira up with a series of vicious strikes. In the end, the latter had no way out and the ref declared Gillespie the winner.

What’s next for Gillespie and McGregor?

With this win, Gillespie has certainly pushed Dana White to provide him a higher-ranked opponent next. Meanwhile, McGregor will be gearing up for his first trilogy bout for the promotion as he looks to take on ‘Diamond’ Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

The rivalry is tied with 1-1 on either side, with Poirier coming off of a win in the most recent edition of this trilogy saga with a second-round TKO at UFC 257.
