Laurence Fox thanked the people who showed out to vote for him in the 2021 election for London Mayor, saying he is ‘profoundly moved’ by their support.

The actor had launched political party Reclaim as part of his bid to takeover from Sadiq Khan.

Khan has been re-elected for a second term, seeing off competition from Conservative’s Shaun Bailey.

The Lewis star finished in sixth place and received 1.8% of the vote overall, finishing behind the likes of Sian Berry from the Green Party, and YouTube star Niko Omilana.

Omilana’s manifesto included points such as ‘Boris Johnson will be forced to shush’ and reducing the price of Freddos to 5p.

On Twitter on Saturday night Fox shared his gratitude for those who had given him their vote.

He wrote: ‘Congratulations to @SadiqKhan and @ShaunBaileyUK and all the other candidates. I’m very much looking forward to a nap! Night night Tw*tter.

‘Thank you so much to the 47,634 of you who voted for me. I am profoundly moved. Sleep well.’

Launching his mayoral bid last month, the Victoria star vowed to ‘free London’ and claimed the city is under threat from the ‘cathedral of wokery that is London’.

He said he had ‘never wanted to be a politician’ and quipped that he ‘used to be an actor.’

Fox thrust himself into the political sphere after sparking a race row on Question Time last year, where he insisted that being called a ‘white privileged male’ was racist and that the Duchess of Sussex had not be subjected to racism.

‘It’s so easy to throw the card of racism at everybody and it’s really starting to get boring now,’ he said on the panel.

He also came under fire for refusing to take the knee in solidarity with Black Lives Matter.

The actor went on to decry ‘cancel culture’ in various, highly publicised interviews, telling talkRadio: ‘You can’t just shut everybody up, there’s an emotional and an intellectual fragility to people who won’t tolerate dissenting voices.’
