Lewis Hamilton Provides Major Contract Update for 2022 F1 Season – “Hopefully Soon”

Numerically, Lewis Hamilton is approaching the twilight of his career. However, his red hot form has other ideas, especially when talk of his future crops up. After the Spanish Grand Prix, the question about his future in Formula One came up yet again. This was after Hamilton won at Catalunya.

Speaking to a reporter from The Sun, Hamilton said, “There’s still some life in this old dog! I would say I’m more conscious than ever about my body, about my training regime. I’ve been training myself for a long time now but constantly growing and learning how to look after, naturally, the vessel that I’m given and feeling great. Contract-wise? Yeah, we never want to be in the position that we were in January, in February.”

So, when would they ideally like for these talks to take place? Hamilton is targeting the mid-season break –

“Hopefully soon we can start, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the actual job. We still have 19 races to do but it would be great to get something in place before the break so then we could, again, be in that break and have a clear picture of the future.”

What else did Lewis Hamilton say about his future?

The Briton confessed that all the speculation threatened his winter. He even guessed that it gave team boss Toto Wolff a headache. According to him, the winter break should be a time of rest and relaxation. Owing to the speculation and rumour, it did not feel like much of a break.

Lewis Hamilton insisted that he needs to be sensible and not rush anything. On the other hand, he knows that he and the team have to eventually start conversations. The 7-time world champion acknowledged that these talks are fairly complex, nothing is never a straightforward procedure.

Having said all that, he hopes that the contract negotiations can start soon. However, he does not want it to interfere with his actual racing. Hamilton is aware that there are still 19 races left on the F1 calendar, though he would be happy to secure his future before the break. For now, he simply wants to bask in his victory before he does it all over again in Monaco in two weeks’ time.
