WOW! ‘Cowboy’ Donald Cerrone Knocked Out in the Very First Round at UFC Fight Night

The fight against Alex Morono at UFC Vegas 26 was an extremely important fight for Donald Cerrone. The UFC Veteran has not had a good run in his past few fights to say the least. He has not won a fight since May 2019. ‘Cowboy’ is win-less in his last five fights having lost four and one being a no-contest against Niko Price.

Being on a five-fight skid is cause for concern for any fighter and even more so when the fighter in question is 38-years old. However, against Alex Morono, ‘Cowboy’ had the opportunity to prove that he still has what it takes to compete against the very best in the UFC. For Morono, the fight was an excellent opportunity to fight against a veteran in the sport.

What is next for Alex Morono after a win at UFC Vegas 26?

‘Cowboy’ started off the first round in a clinch against Morono. As the fight went on, Morono relied more on his striking and less on his grappling skills. Cerrone and Morono swung leather at each other. However, it was Morono who found the target early and often. Cerrone landed a few leg kicks to the body in order to maintain distance and slow down Morono, but that did not happen.

Morono secured the win when he threw a left hand, ducked under Cerrone’s punch that was coming his way, and came over the top with a pinpoint over-hand right. As soon as the punch landed, Cerrone was wobbled. ‘The Great White’ living up to his nickname sensed that his opponent was hurt. Morono piled on the pressure and landed a barrage of punches and knees. The referee Marc Goddard gave ‘Cowboy’ multiple chances to fight back. However, after he saw absolutely no defense from Cerrone he was forced to stop the fight.

In his last outing, Morono succumbed to a unanimous decision loss against Anthony Pettis in December 2020. He accepted the fight against Cerrone on short notice and made the most of it, bouncing back to the win column in style. Morono is currently unranked in the welterweight division and if he is able to string a few more wins, it will not be long before he has a small number right next to his name.
