Bradley Walsh is set to be joined by his son Barney in the Darling Buds of May reboot.

The 60-year-old actor – who worked with his boy on Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad – will take on Sir David Jason’s iconic role of Pop Larkin in upcoming ITV show The Larkins alongside his 23-year-old lad, who will appear as a village policeman.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Their adventures gained around five million viewers an episode, and producers hope to bring some of that audience to The Larkins.

‘Pairing Bradley and Barney adds to the growing anticipation for this reinvention of a show which holds a special place in the hearts of a generation of viewers.’

The father-son duo worked together on three series of their ITV travel show and previously appeared together in the 2013 series of thriller Law & Order: UK.

The reboot has been written by Simon Nye – best known for the likes
of The Durrells and Men Behaving Badly – with one episode penned by
Abigail Wilson.

Set in the late 1950s, The Larkins is the story of a working-class family led by the golden-hearted wheeler dealer Pop Larkin and his wife Ma, together with their six children.

Also set to appear in ITV’s upcoming comedy-drama is Joanna Scanlan as Ma, as well as Bridgerton star Sabrina Bartlett as their daughter Mariette Larkin.

Bradley – who hosts The Chase and appeared alongside Jodie Whittaker in Doctor Who – previously said: ‘I’m thrilled to be asked to be part of this much loved and iconic series of stories.

‘The warmth and affection that H. E Bates has generated through his books is so uplifting and I cannot wait to be part of the Larkin family. It’ll be a hoot!’

Joanna added: ‘What better comfort could there be from all we have endured this year than the rolling laughter and outsize hugs of Ma and Pop?

‘It’s going to be an honour to help bring The Larkins to the nation’s devices!’
