Photo of Dua Lipa and Rita Ora’s granddads having a drink together in the 1960s is blowing fans’ minds
A 1960s picture of Rita Ora and Dua Lipa’s grandfathers having a drink together in Kosovo has impressed the singers’ fans.
The image was shared by Dua’s father Dukagjin Lipa, 52, in 2019, and it has now resurfaced.
In the photograph, Dua’s historian grandfather Seit Lipa can be seen sitting alongside Rita’s film, television and theatre director granddad Besim Sahatciu.
Dua, 25, and Rita, 30, are both of Albanian descent and the snap was taken in the Kosovan city of Peja.
Duka captioned the picture: ‘My dad, Seit Lipa and Mr. Besim Sahatciu. Grandfathers of @dualipa and @ritaora having a drink in 1960s city of Peja #grandfathers #friends.’
Social media users commented on the snap, noting the family resemblance with Seit’s strong eyebrows enabling him to be matched to Dua.
One person wrote: ‘Explains where Dua got those luxurious eyebrows.’
Another posted: ‘Woah Dua looks so much like her grandfather. That’s so cool… The eyebrows give away which is which… Seit Lipa is the one with the eyebrows, right?’
Rita’s grandparent Besim was posthumously honoured in 2018 by the Kosovan Ministry of Culture with a lifetime achievement award for cinematography and he has a street in the city of Pristina named after him.
Seit died in 1999 but was well renowned for his work and acted as heat of the Kosovan Institute of History from 1990 to 1995.
Singer Rita was born in Pristina to her psychiatrist mother Vera and pub landlord father Besnik.
She was named Rita after Besim’s favourite actress Rita Hayworth.
Warbler Dua was born in London and is the eldest child of Kosvan-Albanian parents Anesa and Dukagjin.
Some Twitter users were surprised at the family link after seeing the picture on the site, with many asking how they knew each other.
However, one person pointed out: ‘Their grandfathers are both from Peja, a city that in the 60s had around 65k population, and both of them were successful enough to know each other…
‘Maybe cause it was the 60s in Peja a small city in a small country where almost everyone knows each other? What a conspiracy theory…’
