“Really Don’t Care”: Alexander Zverev Takes a Dig at German Press as They Don’t Show Up After His Mutua Madrid Open 2021 Win

World No.6 Alexander Zverev recently won the Mutua Madrid Open 2021 title. The German player made a phenomenal comeback against Matteo Berrettini in the finals and defeated the Italian in three sets. The final scoreline of the match 6(8)-7(10), 6-4, 6-3.

In the post-match interview, Alexander Zverev faced a really strange yet tough question. The Italian press asked him that they would really welcome them if he gets a passport from Italy. They also claimed that they would be really interested in him, unlike the German press.

“Yeah, yeah. I’m not going to answer this because I don’t want to make any story out of it, to be honest (smiling). Yeah, thank you for the invite though,” said Zverev in response.

Zverev thanked the Italian press for their invite. However, he didn’t want to make a big controversy, and thus, he refused to comment anything about the German press.

The US Open 2020 runner-up has always been critical of the German media and mentioned that they are not interested in him. He believes that they don’t talk about his performances even though he has played well in the recent past.

“Just won a Masters and there’s none in German”- Alexander Zverev

Zverev became quite disappointed and disheartened when he got to know that there was no one from the German media in his post-match press conference. He was definitely unhappy as he just won a Masters 1000 tournament and there was no reporter from his own country. As a result, he yet again stated that the Germans don’t really care about him.

“None? I just won a Masters and there’s none in German? As you see, the Germans really don’t care,” added the World No.6 player.

After exhibiting some exceptional performances at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021, Alexander Zverev will now head to Rome for the Italian Open 2021. Will Zverev be able to win yet another Masters tournament on clay this year?
