WATCH: Hornets’ LaMelo Ball Shoots an Outrageous Floater and Stuns the Pelicans Defense
The Hornets have been alternating between wins & losses for the last one week, and that continued against the Pelicans. Michael Jordan’s squad lost 110-112 to the Pelicans in a closely fought match-up. This loss has put the Hornets at risk of losing their ground to the flying Wizards in the EC standings.
However, even as the end result went against them, the Hornets have their reasons to relish the Sunday night. They had a memorable outing from guard Terry Rozier and an equally amazing supporting role from rookie LaMelo Ball.
LaMelo Ball showed off his diverse skill sets
The 19-YO point guard scored 22 points, 4 rebs, 5 assists, and 2 steals in an efficient night where he shot 52.6% from the field. Apart from missing all of his free throw attempts, Melo looked every bit perfect. His three-point shooting and the jumpers did all the damage, but one shot that stood out was a flawless floater in clutch time.
With just two minutes remaining on the game clock, the star rookie used possession to complete a teardrop and tie the score. Take a close look –

The legendary players like Chris Paul, Tony Parker, and Derrick Rose hold the title of shooting one of the best floaters in the league. Perhaps LaMelo can improvise further and use this eye-pleasing skill more often to find his name on the coveted list.

The Hornets wasted the fourth quarter
After Zion Williamson fractured his finger in a season-ending event, the Pelicans roster took a major hit. Still, their bench in Jaxson Hayes and Nickeil Alexander-Walker did a fantastic job to support Eric Bledsoe’s 24-point night. They had Lonzo Ball immensely struggling with just 28.6% from the field, but the other starters made up for it.
On the other hand, all of LaMelo’s efforts went down in the drain, when he missed both his crucial FTs and also fell to a turnover in clutch time. The Pelicans held a great defense in the end, and even a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Rozier could not do much good. Plus, Bismack Biyombo going scoreless further put a dent in their intentions, leaving them in a sensitive situation.
Anyway, with that performance from LaMelo, do you see him making the cut for the ROY award? Help us know in the comments.
