Alastair Campbell made a cheeky dig at Meghan Markle over her new children’s book while in conversation with her friend Ashley Banjo on today’s episode of Good Morning Britain.

The presenter, who is a guest host alongside Susanna Reid throughout Mental Health Awareness Week, was interviewing the Diversity star about being nominated for Bafta’s must-see moment award before changing the topic to his guest’s writing ventures.

‘Everyone’s writing children’s books these days and you’ve written one,’ Alastair said, referencing Ashley and his brother’s book Fly High Crew: the Green Glow.

‘Not as good as ours though,’ Ashley replied, with a grin on his face.

‘Course not!’ Alastair replied. ‘You’re way better than Meghan, we know that.’

He then went on to praise Ashley for the first paragraph of his new kids book.

Of course, Alastair was taking a swipe at Meghan’s upcoming kids book The Bench, which is set to be published next month.

The Duchess of Sussex’s book is about a father and son relationship, inspired by Prince Harry and their son, Archie.

‘The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born,’ Meghan said. ‘That poem became this story.

‘Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolour illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens.

‘My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.’

Meghan and Prince Harry reached out to Diversity dancer Ashley last year after his Black Lives Matter-inspired routine sparked thousands of Ofcom complaints.

‘We had a great chat about it,’ Ashley said of their conversation.

‘I was super grateful to them for giving me a call.’
