Donald Glover took aim at creators of new films and TV series, claiming they’re afraid of getting cancelled.

The This Is America rapper, 37, opened up about the entertainment industry in a string of posts on Twitter, insisting that people weren’t being experimental because they were scared of ‘being cancelled’.

‘Saw people on here havin a discussion about how tired they were of reviewing boring stuff (tv & film),’ he began.

‘We’re getting boring stuff and not even experimental mistakes(?) because people are afraid of getting cancelled.

‘So they feel like they can only experiment w/ aesthetic. (also because some of em know theyre not that good) [sic].’

The Community actor failed to mention exactly who he was directing his posts at, or what discussions he had seen.

However, his comments have been taken in different ways by followers, with some wondering if his take was calling out cancel culture, or whether he meant creators were nervous of their projects being cancelled altogether.

Donald’s post comes after he revealed that season three of Atlanta was finally underway, two years after it was initially due on our screens.

The acclaimed comedy-drama last aired in 2018, and fans have been not-so patiently waiting for any clue of when more episodes would hit our screens.

Thankfully, he shared a very rare Instagram update, showing he had returned to set.

Donald, who plays Earn, could be seen in a grainy phone photograph with co-stars Brian Tyree Henry (Paper Boi), LaKeith Stanfield (Darius) and Zazie Beetz (Vanessa).

Alongside the post, he simply wrote: ‘Day 0″ S3 ATL.’

Atlanta follows college dropout Earn as he attempts to improve his life and the lives of his daughter Lottie, and on-off girlfriend Vanessa, by managing the music career of his rapper cousin.

The FX series has won two Golden Globes for best television series – musical or comedy and best actor for Donald, and two Primetime Emmy Awards for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series and outstanding directing for a comedy series.

Scheduling conflicts followed by the Covid-19 pandemic meant that the show missed not only its 2019 date, but its slated early 2021 premiere.

Fingers crossed we’ll get another update soon.
