‘I Feel Sorry for These Guys’- Tyson Fury Supports Ryan Garcia’s Decision to Pull Out of Javier Fortuna Fight

Heavyweight stalwart Tyson Fury has backed Ryan Garcia’s decision of pulling out from fighting Javier Fortuna, which was scheduled to happen on July 9. 22-year-old Garcia has expressed problems regarding his mental health and has hung up his gloves for a while.

Several fans and boxers, including Javier Fortuna, have hailed the act. Recently, Tyson Fury has also favored Ryan Garcia and has revealed facing similar problems in the past. The heavyweight champion’s struggle with depression is no secret to boxing fans. But he has also claimed to pull out of fights for his mental health.

Mike Coppinger posted a clip on his social media handle to disclose Tyson Fury’s opinion regarding Ryan Garcia vs Javier Fortuna’s Interim lightweight title bout.

“Mental health is a real story. I’ve actually pulled out of fights before because of mental health problems and I know other fighters have as well. … I feel sorry for these guys,” said ‘The Gypsy King’.

This has also slowed Ryan Garcia’s fast-paced journey in the ongoing lightweight roster. He kicked off 2021 with a sensational TKO win against Luke Campbell for the WBC Interim 135 belts in January. It showed him the path to a mandatory fight against WBC champion Devin Haney. But Garcia called out WBA lightweight titlist Gervonta Davis out of all.

While Ryan Garcia and ‘Tank’ verbally agreed to face each other, the Interim champion jumped in to advertise a possible showdown against Manny Pacquiao. Out of so many options, he ultimately opted to face Javier Fortuna.

Nevertheless, Garcia opened about his mental issues to make a bold decision. Hence he has seemingly set another example to the fans.

What’s next for Ryan Garcia?

While ‘KingRy’ took some time off from actions, his contemporary champions are locked in for their upcoming bouts. Gervonta Davis will move up a division to challenge Mario Barrios for the WBA (Regular)  140 lbs belt. Meanwhile, Devin Haney will defend his WBC 135 lbs title against Jorge Linares.

Adding to that, Manny Pacquiao is now rumored to return against welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. Although it doesn’t appear to be official yet, Garcia vs Pacquiao doesn’t seem to happen. Hence Ryan Garcia can opt to compete in a title-eliminator once he regains his prime form. Until then, the 135 lbs elites can clear the clouds over the division.
