John Mulaney and his wife Anna Marie Tendler are getting a divorce after six years of marriage.

Anna Marie, 35, said she was ‘heartbroken’ that the comedian had decided to end their marriage, confirming the split in a statement.

The artist said: ‘I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage. I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.’

A rep for John, 38, added to Page Six: ‘John will not have any further comment as he continues to focus on his recovery and getting back to work.’

The pair first met on a trip to Martha’s Vineyard with their respective friends groups, and in a post on their wedding website, they explained: ‘After a group vacation to Martha’s Vineyard, John rode shotgun while Anna drove a carload of people home. He did bits the whole ride and killed. They were not dating at the time, but Anna knew they would be soon after.’

It’s unclear when they began dating, but Anna Marie ‘predicted’ they would tie the knot in 2010, writing it in a sign.

John shared the sign in 2018 on their fourth anniversary, and wrote: ‘Happy 4th Anniversary @amtendler. And happy 8 year and 5 month anniversary to when you predicted it. Every time I see you it feels like when Leo saw Claire Danes through the aquarium.’

John and Anna Marie got married in July 2014, a year after they adopted a French bulldog named Petunia together.

They have appeared on the red carpet together on numerous occasions, while John has mentioned his ‘girlfriend’ and ‘wife’ in many of his routines.

Anna Marie appeared on John and Nick Kroll’s Oh Hello The P’dcast podcast in May 2020, discussing the make-up work she did on the Broadway show.

The news of their split comes after John completed a 60 day stint in rehab for alcohol and cocaine addiction.

The Big Mouth star is believed to have checked in in December and left in February, and is now receiving outpatient care.

John struggled with substance abuse from an early age, drinking for ‘attention’ aged 13, and later becoming addicted to alcohol and cocaine.

He told Esquire that he first became sober aged 23, saying: ‘I went on a bender that weekend that was just, like, fading in and out of a movie. It was just crazy… I didn’t kill anyone or assault anyone.

‘But yeah, I was like, “You’re f***ing out of control.” And I thought to myself, “I don’t like this guy anymore. I’m not rooting for him.’
