Kevin Smith wants you all to know he came up with ‘Bennifer’ as Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez ‘enjoy intense reunion’
Kevin Smith would like to remind everyone that he was the one who coined the term ‘Bennifer’ to refer to Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez as a couple.
We were thrown back to the early 00s recently when the Daredevil star was spotted visiting his newly single ex, who he was engaged to in 2002, at her California home.
People were buzzing with memories of the singer’s Jenny From The Block video, and ‘Bennifer’ began trending on Twitter.
The director, who worked with Ben on the film Jersey Girl in 2004 when he and Jennifer were at the peak of their power couple trajectory, wanted credit where it was due.
According to Kevin he was responsible for bringing the term ‘Bennifer’ – which combined Ben and J-Lo’s names into one handy package – into our lives.
He tweeted: ‘“Bennifer” is trending. It’s a name I first gave the kids during “Jersey Girl” pre-production, before the world found out they were dating.
‘I’d later drop the name in an interview with the @nytimes. Shortly thereafter, it appeared in the article and then entered the vernacular.’
Thanks, Kevin! Bet you wish you’d trademarked it now.
Ben and Jen dated in the early 2000s and got engaged in 2002, however they split in 2004 before the I’m Real singer married Marc Anthony. They share twins Max and Emme, 13.
Ben went on to marry Alias star Jennifer Garner in 2005 before splitting in 2018 and together, they have three children; Violet, 15, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, nine.
In April J-Lo announced she and fiance Alex Rodriguez had split three years after getting engaged.
A source told People that the former flames ‘spent several days’ together.
‘They have a strong connection. It’s all been quick and intense, but Jennifer is happy,’ they said.
Speculation remains rife about the nature of their relationship, however another insider insisted to E! News they are just friends and simply ‘picked up where they last left off and are enjoying each other’s company right now.’
