Serena Williams and Coach Patrick Mouratoglou Watch Coco Gauff Practice at Italian Open 2021

The Italian Open 2021 got off to a great start as fans witnessed some really great matches right in the first few days. Even though top players like Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal are yet to begin their campaign, the Masters 1000 tournament has already impressed fans.

Rising star Coco Gauff too enjoyed a superb start as she defeated Yulia Putintseva in the first round of the Italian Open 2021. She didn’t face much difficulty and beat down her opponent in straight sets. The final scoreline of the match was 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

The 17-year-old will now face Maria Sakkari in the second round of the tournament. Interestingly, her idol Serena Williams watched her practice on clay right before her next match.

Serena reached Rome, Italy today with her coach Patrick Mouratoglou. The Frenchman is also the coach of Coco Gauff and World No.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas and was thus keeping an eye on Gauff’s practice sessions.

“And here we are. We are in Rome” tweeted Mouratoglou after reaching Italy.

In the video, one can see Serena watching Gauff’s match. She looks quite relaxed and confident ahead of her clash at the Rome Masters 2021 tomorrow.

Serena Williams will make a comeback on the court after almost three months at the Italian Open 2021

Tennis queen Serena Williams last played a professional match at the Australian Open 2021. She lost to World No.2 Naomi Osaka in the semi-finals but led a brilliant campaign in Melbourne even at the age of 39.

She hasn’t begun her clay-court season yet as she skipped the Mutua Madrid Open 2021 due to an oral problem. However, the wait is finally over as Serena will be stepping on the court at the Italian Open 2021 after almost three months. Even though she didn’t play much tennis before this, the American Legend practiced hard at the Mouratoglou Academy in Nice, France ahead of the Rome Masters 2021.

Serena has already won the Italian Open title four times in her career so far. If she wins it this time, she’ll tie Chris Evert- the WTA player with the most Italian Open titles (5) right now. The 23-time Grand Slam champion will kick off her campaign tomorrow against Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska. Will Serena be able to conquer Rome this year?
