What are the Best Finishing Moves of Tony Ferguson?

Tony Ferguson returns at UFC 262 this weekend against Beneil Dariush. The clash is one of the most important ones of Ferguson’s career as the former interim champion is currently on a 2-fight skid for the first time in his career. Ferguson endured losses against the likes of Justin Gaethje and Charles Oliveira in 2020.

Nevertheless, ‘El Cucuy’ is back in action and will look to get back to winning ways and likely breathe fire into his title aspirations. However, he has a tough opponent in hand in Dariush, who is a very complete fighter; not unlike Ferguson.

Ferguson has a multitude of weapons at his disposal as he is one of the most unpredictable fighters in the UFC roster. From Imanari rolls to throwing sands at his opponents, he is truly a unique character in his own merit.

He makes the fights entertaining and has a massive tally of 20 finishes under his belt. Here we take a look at some of his best-finishing moves.

Best finishers from Tony Ferguson

‘El Cucuy’ has good hands and can hurt his opponents with punches. But perhaps his best weapons while striking are his vicious elbows.

Ferguson opens up his opponents with his razor-sharp elbows from close range and makes them quit. His fights against Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone, Rafael dos Anjos, for instance, were a supreme display of his elbow strikes.

‘El Cucuy’ is a master of the ground game as well. A total of 8 submission wins is a testament to the same. Primarily, his D’Arce chokes and triangle chokes are his biggest weapons.

He has finished super fighters like Lando Vannata, Mike Rio, and Edson Barboza with D’Arce chokes in the UFC. He also has a great Triangle Choke from the bottom. That move helped him win the UFC Interim Lightweight title at UFC 216 against Kevin Lee.

Ferguson can also submit people from a conventional Rear-Naked choke. Lightweight contenders like Gleison Tibau and Abel Trujillo have been victims of Ferguson’s Rear-Naked chokes.

El Cucuy‘ will look to fall back to one of those moves this weekend when he fights Dariush. If he shows up as his usual self, he could prove too much for Dariush.

One can only hope that he is still the same fighter that conquered the division for almost a decade and his recent slump was just a case of bad luck.
