Anthony Davis Says Lakers Going Through The Play-In Tournament is ‘a Better Story’

The Los Angeles Lakers are looking to end the season on a high note. The defending champions had a poor season marred by injuries to their top stars. Currently, the Lakers are the seventh seed and are hoping to move into the top six of the Western Conference going forward. It will be a difficult task because they’ve lost the season series to both Portland and Dallas who are above them. However, Anthony Davis believes the Lakers have a better narrative going through the play-in tournament.

Anthony Davis says play-in is a better story for the Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis spoke to the ‘Inside the NBA’ crew after the game. AD was crucial for the Lakers, helping them get the win over the Knicks in a big game that went to overtime. He noted that the Lakers have been held back by injuries, but want to keep going forward.

While the Lakers want to secure a guaranteed playoff spot, they don’t fear the play-in tournament. In fact, they could have a better narrative around them if they go through the play-in tournament.

AD said, “We’re a very confident ball club. Injuries kind of held us back this season. We play the right way, defend, rebound, run the floor, play Laker basketball. We can compete with anybody, and if that means playing the play-in games to get to the playoffs to play what is looks like Phoenix? We’re fine with that. It makes for a better story at the end of the day.”

Lakers hoping to avoid the play-in tournament

The Lakers may become the first of many teams in NBA history to win an NBA title and then reach the playoffs through the play-in tournament. The play-in tournament is an unpopular prospect among NBA players, as they believe it complicates what was earlier a very simple playoff qualification process.

LeBron James himself has spoken about how he doesn’t like the play-in tournament and doesn’t appreciate the person who came up with the idea.

Will the Los Angeles Lakers have to play against the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament? Currently, they are one game behind both the Mavericks and the Trail Blazers. However, they will need to have a better record than at least one of those teams in order to avoid the play-in tournament, as those two teams have the head-to-head advantage over the Lakers.
