‘Raj no more’: Kunal Nayyar brutally buries all traces of The Big Bang Theory in first look at chilling new thriller
Kunal Nayyar is firmly burying traces of The Big Bang Theory’s Raj Koothrappali as he revealed a first look at his upcoming role in the Apple TV Plus thriller, Suspicion.
The 40-year-old will be starring alongside Uma Thurman, who stars as a prominent American businesswomen on the hunt for her kidnapped son, with four British citizens staying at the hotel of his abduction becoming prime suspects.
Details surrounding Kunal character have been kept under wraps for now, but the actor shared a picture of himself at what appears to be a workshop, looking lost in thought…
We’re sold.
But alongside the image, referring to his The Big Bang Theory hero, Kunal wrote: ‘Raj no more… #nyc #suspicion @appletv credit: @tomrhysharries.’
He said what he said, guys.
Kunal previously explained to Metro.co.uk he was keen to distance himself from Raj, and last year did just that in his first major TV role away from the sitcom as a killer in Netflix’s anthology seires, Criminal.
‘There was definitely [a deliberate decision],’ he said. ‘It was not like, “oh I’m only going to do this kind of work”, but it came at the right time. It was definitely what I wanted to do.
‘Also physically, I’m so recognisable from my voice, I’m so recognisable from my face… it was important to do something that completely breaks the barrier.’
‘I still have some mannerisms of Raj just as I have some mannerisms of this character, but I wanted to make sure that whatever I did next was like, “Wait, who is this? Oh My God. Is that the guy from The Big Bang?!”, as opposed to “Oh there’s Raj, playing a killer”.’
And it appears he’s continuing to shed his TBBT past in Suspicion.
Kunal’s post comes after Kaley Cuoco teases a The Big Bang Theory reunion, similar to the upcoming Friends Reunion filmed last month.
Suspicion will be available to stream on Apple TV Plus.
