Valorant Pros TenZ and Hiko Are Not Big Fans of the Plain Design of the New Minima Range of Skins
Most of the time, popular FPS games have a lot of cosmetics and customization options for their characters. Titles like Call of Duty Warzone and Fortnite have a lot of cool stuff to spice up the experience for their players. But games like Valorant and CSGO rarely have customization options beyond the occasional weapon skins.
In Valorant, fans have a lot of choices in terms of weapon skins. Few of them are earned by completing objectives with certain Agents, but most of them require micro-transactions to use in the game. The Riot-developed title has often created over-the-top skins, which have a lot of distinct sounds as well. But their most recent collection has a lot of detractors including pro players like TenZ and Hiko.

The new Minima Weapon skins collection in Valorant
Valorant recently released an update for the game with Patch 2.09. The patch included some minor changes for Agents, maps, and fixes for bugs. But along with that, Riot Games also released two new skin bundles for Valorant called Minima and Tethered Realms. The Tethered Realms collection has a cool and serene design that looks splendid. It also has some nice textures, and the highlight of the bundle is the melee that can become a dagger and a sword. Fans have loved the skin bundle and have rave reviews about it.
But the response to the Minima collection has been pretty mixed, with a lot of negative reviews. Just like the name suggests, the collection has skins with a minimalistic design for weapons like the Phantom, Operator, Sheriff, Spectre, and Ares. While the matte black finish looks nice, it’s the plain and boring design that has rubbed off the wrong way with the fans. Other than that, it only has some minor animations that could be barely seen. Players have also said that it looks quite similar to the default skinless weapons in the game.
TenZ and Hiko dislike the Minima skins
Two of the biggest names in the Valorant Esports scene reacted to the Minima skin bundle. Sentinels player TenZ tweeted about the Minima Operator design and stated that he wouldn’t pick it up if it was lying on the ground. It’s pretty jarring to see a player like TenZ, who loves the Operator, refusing to use it just because of its shoddy design.
Other than that, 100 Thieves’ star Hiko also expressed his displeasure with the skin while livestreaming on his channel. He mentioned that the design looked ‘ugly and plain’, and believed that it looked like a Tesla-inspired weapon. But he also said that he liked the Holographic ADS mechanism for the Phantom variant.
“You make it look purposefully ugly, so it doesn’t look plain.”
Fans who don’t like the ‘over-the-top’ animations and colors would probably love the skin bundle. But many members of the community believe that the developers could have added something more to it. Maybe in the future, Riot Games can release another variant of the Minima skins.
